The Nagaokayama area in the center of the city is the Sagae Park.
The view is good, and you can overlook the Yamagata Basin, Mt. Gassan and the mountains of Zao and Asahi.
In addition, there are many literary monuments, an athletic open space, and a walking path in this park that you can enjoy throughout the four seasons.

The azalea garden on the eastern slope of the park is 3.2 hectares wide. About 43,000 azaleas of 11 different species are planted in the park.
The best time to see them is from early to late May. The azaleas can be enjoyed for a long time as there are early to late blooming species.
There are also wisteria trellis, which are accompanied by purple flowers.
There are lights at night during the flowering period.
