Jion-ji was once a complex centered on the Mirokudo temple with the three others of Mogami-in, Hozo-in, and Kezo-in, along with another peripheral 48 temples, all on the same mountain.
Currently, there are 17 temples in Sanka-in.

It has a history of about 1,000 years, and many of its buildings and Buddhist statues are designated as important cultural properties of the country, the prefecture, or the city.

Another highlight is the various events that take place throughout the year.

In particular, the Jion-ji Dance, which is held on May 5 every year, is a nationally designated intangible folk-cultural property.

On May 1, 2021, the Jion-ji Terrace was opened to introduce the charms of the old Jionji precincts in an easy-to-understand manner through various programs.

It is recommended to visit Jion-ji after deepening your understanding at the Jion-ji Terrace.
