What year was 2022 for you?
This year, various events have been revived for the first time in three years, and little by little things have started to move to get back to pre-pandemic levels.
I just hope that 2023 will start moving even more.

Zao in winter is know for its Snow Monsters, the soft rime ice covered trees found at the top of the mountains.
When lit up they appear fantastically, are just like monsters.
Please enjoy the atmosphere that is a little different from the daytime.

・Rime Fantasy Corridor Tour in a Night Cruiser
Ride a special vehicle with heating, the snowcat vehicle called the Night Cruiser, and experience the lit-up night frost (in winter) and hoarfrost up close on the Rime Fantasy Corridor Tour.
Be sure to take a look at the powerful frost-covered trees approaching.
*You may not be able to see the Snow Monsters depending on the weather conditions at the time of your visit.

・Former Chitosekan Light-up ~Winter Lights~
The former Chitosekan building is a Japanese-style restaurant that opened in 1876.
The current building was built in 1915 after it was destroyed in the Yakushi Great Fire of Yamagata City.
The restaurant closed in 2021 and is currently managed by Yamagata City.
The old Chitosekan building full of Taisho romance will be lit up in the evening from December 23 (Fri.) to January 10 (Tue.).
Please take a look at this wonderful building which appears fantastically in the snow light.

・Kaminoyama Castle Climb on New Year's Day
Would you like to see the first sunrise of 2023 from the castle tower of Kaminoyama Castle?
Around 7:30, the sun rises from Mt. Miyoshi, one of the 100 famous mountains in Yamagata.
The first 200 people will receive a commemorative gift (finished as soon as it runs out).
In the museum, a new year’s special exhibition “Calligraphy exhibition of the Kaminoyama feudal lord Fujii Matsudaira family head” is also being held. Please enjoy it together.

The Higashine WINTER FESTIVAL is where sparkling illuminations color the winter sky of Higashine City.
The Christmas Market, which is held every Saturday from December 3 (Sat.) to 24 (Sat.), offers a warm food menu and cute miscellaneous goods, creating a fun time leading up to Christmas.

・The 11th Jionji New Year's Eve Fireworks Festival Setsugetsuka
On the night of New Year’s Eve, winter fireworks will soar over Jionji Temple.
There will be an Instagram photo contest this year.

This year’s Yamagata Sound and Light Fantasia is based on the theme of Forest of Light, and features a 7.5m tall light tree and 600,000 light-emitting flowers.
In addition, colorful photos are also available!
On the event days (December 24, 2022, January 15, 2023 and February 12, 2023), there will be various projects held such as shops, fireworks, and bread festival!
