At the Shimohozawa Kandamine Shrine (Kinpozan Zao Temple Sanjo-in Temple), there is a gigantic wooden Zao Daigongen statue of 3.6m high, with three eyes and two arms, and a blue-black color. (A gongen is a Buddha who changed his appearance and appeared in Japan as a god in order to save the people.)
Gohonson is also a remnant of the times when Shinto and Buddhism mixed together, and is a uniquely Japanese god in Shugendo (Yamabushi).
The statue is registered as a Yamagata City designated tangible cultural property.
