The three famous taiyaki (red bean filled sweet in the shape of a fish) shops in Tokyo are said to be Azabu-juban’s Naniwaya Sohonten, Ningyocho’s Yanagiya, and Yotsuya’s Wakaba. But there actually is a Wakaba franchise in Yamagata City. Its name is, of course, Taiyaki Wakaba.

Like the sweets of the original family’s, the taiyaki here have plenty of anko and a crispy waffle-like mold. They are characteristic as they grilled one by one over an open flame. It is said that grilling them in large quantities is similar to farming products but that grilling them one at a time is like natural products. This is the reason for their delicious and addictive taste!
