Shidare sakura cherry tree at Gongendo

  • img

The Gongendo shrine at the foot of the Zao mountains is said to be place of rest for the followers of the Zao Gongen faith.
It is said that the Gongendo shidare-sakura cherry tree there was planted for the people’s peace of mind and prosperity.
The appearance of blooming flowers in full bloom on the weeping branches is also called furisode sakura, reminiscent of graceful kimono sleeves.
It is a cultural property (natural monument) designated by Kaminoyama City with an estimated age of 500 years.
