Culture History
In ancient times, there was a checkpoint called Uyamuya on the Sasaya Pass, the old road connecting Mutsu Province and Dewa Province.
According to ancient records called Honaifudoki, it is said that long ago, a mountain ogre lived in here and captured and ate travelers.
However, in the mountains lived a pair of birds that were Kannon-sama in disguise, and when there was a mountain ogre appeared, they shouted “Yuya”, and when it was not there, it sang “Muya” to inform the travelers. It seems that this is where this ruin takes its name from.
