The Yamagata Creative City Center Q1 (Kyuichi) opened on September 1, 2022, as a base for the Creative City of Yamagata.

Yamagata is part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network of cities that have been recognized as an area of excellence in a variety of fields, including film, music, art, design, traditional culture, and food culture. Yamagata City was certified in the field of film in 2017.
