If you head east on National Route 286 from Yamagata City, you will reach the Bohara Bridge over the Mamigasaki River.

Mt. Kobari is the steep, triangular mountain that can be seen right ahead from there.

This area, which emerges from the crevices into the plains, has been an important military point since ancient times, and many battles were fought between Minamoto no Yoriyoshi and the Abe Yoritoki clan, the rulers of Oshu, during the Former Nine Year War (1063).
