Wakamatsu Kannon (Reiryu-zan Jakusho-ji temple)

  • img

■ Origin & History
It is said that in the Nara period (710~794) priests travelling in the area heard the sound of a bell coming from the East of the mountain. They climbed it and built a temple dedicated to the 33 Kannon. It is said that later the priest Kukai (774~835) made 1,000 fire offerings here.

The main deity is the Seikanzeon Bodhisattva that Gyoki carved with Japanese cedar. Nowadays it is enshrined as a secret Buddha, and instead, the statue of the Holy Kannon donated during the Edo period welcomes you.

It is also known as a matchmaking Buddha, as sung by Hanagasa Ondo, “Medai, Medaka Wakamatsu-sama.”
