The Aterazawa Tateyama Castle Historical Site Park is located on a hill north of Aterazawa Station, the terminus of the JR Aterazawa Line, on the site of the former Aterazawa Tateyama Castle, once owned by the local powerful Oe clan.

From the gazebo at the summit, you can see the majestic flow of the Mogami River winding below, as well as the Asahi mountain range and the Zao mountains. This spot in particular is considered to have the most beautiful views along the 229 km long Mogami River, and is visited by many painters and photographers from inside and outside the prefecture.

Due to its excellent views, it was designated as a Mogami River viewpoint in 1997  and as one of Japan’s 100 Best Walks in 2002.
