・The 60th Yamagata Hanagasa Festival

Yamagata’s famous flower hat dance parade is back after threee years off.
The venue will be returned to Yamagata City Center area of Tokamachi, Honcho, Nanokamachi and ending at the Bunshokan (old prefectural office) for the first time in three years.

Dancers in splendid costumes dance passionately with the chants of “Yassho Makasho”.

The hanagasa dance includes the Hanagasa Odori-Kunpu Mogami River (commonly known as the women’ dance) and the Zao Gyoukou (commonly known as the men’s dance), as well as the Obanazawa-style exhilarating hat-spinning style hanagasa dance and the creative dance. It is also a real pleasure to be able to see various dances such as Hanagasa Odori!

One of the highlights is that the design of the hanagasa differs depending on the dance.

・Tendo Summer Festival 2022

The 2022 edition of the Tendo Summer Festival will be held in one day instead of the usual two days.

At the festival, approximately 800 dancers, including the marching band, the Tendo Koma Odori Parade, the Hanagasa Odori Parade, and the Hon-Mikoshi Togyo, dance magnificently along the roadside.

・Obanazawa Hanagasa Festival 2022 [Cancelled]

The 2022 edition was cancelled due to COVID-19.

The Obanazawa Hanagasa Festival is held in the birthplace of Hanagasa Odori.

Obanazawa’s hanagasa dance is a dynamic dance in which the hat is turned while moving forward.

On the 27 (Sat.), the day before the Hanagasa Parade, the Suwa Shrine Reitaisai (Reitaisai) is held, in which a traditional procession of portable shrines and musical accompaniment floats parades.

Enjoy the authentic Obanazawa Hanagasa Festival.

・The 52nd Higashine Festival

The 2022 edition of the Higashine Festival will be held on a smaller scale.

In place of the Tanabata Lantern Procession and carrying mikoshi, a special display of Dengaku lanterns and a panel display of the mikoshi of each mikoshi group will be held.

Please take a look at the hot dance at the Dance Competition by dance groups inside and outside the city.

・Murayama Tokunai Festival 2022

At the Murayama Tokunai Festival, the dancers perform powerful, heroic and splendid dances to the lively music passed down from Akkeshi, Hokkaido.

◆Mogami area

・Shinjo Festival

With a history of more than 260 years, the attraction of the Shinjo Festival is its gorgeous float procession, the sound of the musical accompaniment, and the local people’s passion for the festival that has been passed down from generation to generation.

It is like a historical picture scroll reminiscent of the feudal era, such as the floats that express various scenes from kabuki and stories, the traditional mikoshi procession, and the elegant Hagino deer dance and Nitayama deer dance performed at the Shinjo castle ruins.

The hot summer in Yamagata ends with the Shinjo Festival, and the season changes to autumn.

・Mamurogawa Festival

The Mamurogawa Festival will be held for the first time in three years.

The Mamurogawa Ondo parade will go through the town with live performances of the Mamurogawa Ondo, and the majestic portable shrine parade at Yamagami Shrine.
Concerts by elementary and junior high school students will add to the excitement of the festival.

The finale of the festival is the fireworks display.

There will be no reserved seat system this year, so please enjoy yourselves while taking measures against COVID-19.

◆Shonai area

・The 1st Shonai Kiryu Festival

Shonai Town was born in 2005 from the merger of the former towns of Amarume and Tachikawa.

A new festival will be held to pray for a bountiful harvest and the development of the town based on the concepts of the two towns’ legends related to dragons, the Hiryu Densetsu of the former Amarume Town and the Ryujin Faith of the former Tachikawa Town.

The highlight is that two dragons, Hiryu and Himeryu, have souls and awaken their eyes! In addition to a soul-instilling ceremony, a performance of Amarume Hiryu Taiko drums, and a dragon-carrying experience by elementary and junior high school students, the finale is a dragon dance performed by a 40m-long flying dragon and a 30m-long princess dragon.

The festival will also be livened up by food stalls and food trucks that bring together delicious food from Yamagata and Shonai.

・The 40th Fujishima Summer Festival

Fujishima has been called “Shishigo” since ancient times, and many lion dances and kagura have been handed down from generation to generation.

It is a festival where the traditional performing arts come together.

Also, at the 2nd “Fuji Rock Festival”, vocalists in their teens to 50s who have applied in advance using karaoke will be scored and scored to determine the Utauma No. 1

There are shops, festival stalls, and Bon Odori dances, so everyone from children to adults can enjoy it.
