Zao is famous for its Okama crater lake.
You can park your car at the Zao High Line parking lot after taking the Zao Echo Line and take a walk to reach the summit of Kattadake.

Of course, you can also reach it from the Zao Ropeway “Jizou Sancho Station”.
It takes four hours for a round-trip so time your trip to be back in time for the last ropeway down before it gets dark.
The emerald green of the lake is even more beautiful when tired.

Since the observatory is high in the mountains it is cool and comfortable in summer.

About 95 minutes from Yamagata Station on the bus bouond for Kattadake (Okama) (1 bus per day in season only)

[Hiking]
Hike for 90~120 minutes from the Zao Ropeway “Jizo Sancho Station” (one way only – the return trip takes the same time)
