1. Kajo Park: Learn about history and culture
Yamagata Castle was once developed and expanded by Mogami Yoshiaki, and is now one of the largest castles in the Tohoku region.
The site has now been developed as Kajo Park, and the Ninomaru Higashi Otemon Gate, moat, and stone walls have all been restored, allowing visitors to stroll around and feel the atmosphere of the castle.
There are also many cherry trees in the park, making it a popular cherry blossom viewing spot in the spring when the trees are in full bloom.

3. Nanokamachi Gotenzeki: a place where you can enjoy the charm of historic waterways and charming streets
The Nanokamachi Gotenzeki waterway that runs through the center of Yamagata City was built during the Edo period to supply water for daily use to the castle town of Yamagata Castle.

4. Bunshokan (old prefectural office): a beautiful Western-style building from the Taisho period
Bunshokan (old prefectural office), built during the Taisho era, features a Renaissance-style design and is a beautiful historic building with red bricks and white window frames.
It was formerly used as the former Yamagata Prefectural Office and Assembly Hall, and after completing its role it was restored and preserved, and designated an Important Cultural Property in 1995.
With its retro atmosphere that evokes history, it has also been used as a filming location for TV dramas and movies, and is full of photos that you’ll want to take pictures of.

5. Momiji Park & Seifuso: A charming Japanese garden
This garden is an ancient stroll-style garden with a pond of the large Shingon Buddhist temple, Hodoji Temple, and the site of the temple has been developed by Yamagata City as a city park and opened to the public.
You can enjoy the beautiful scenery all year round, but in autumn the contrast between the colored leaves and the pond is particularly exquisite, making it the perfect place for photos taken in traditional Japanese clothing.
The park also houses the Yamagata City Central Community Center Annex Seifuso and the teahouse Hokkoan, and the facility is used for tea ceremonies and tea ceremony lessons.
