KASUMI TERRACE, an Italian dining restaurant, grand opened on July 3, 2025, in the park near Yamagata Station, about a 1-minute walk from the east exit.
This facility is the first in Yamagata Prefecture to be developed using the “Park-PFI (Public-Private Finance Initiative)” system, and it’s currently one of the most talked-about spots, where you can enjoy authentic cuisine in harmony with the park’s natural surroundings.
This time, I visited during lunchtime and experienced the food and atmosphere firsthand, so I’d like to share its charms with you.
1. What is KASUMI TERRACE?
KASUMI TERRACE is operated by the local company, manmal Co., Ltd.
Their concept is “Authentic food made more accessible and enjoyable.” They offer Italian cuisine that blends high-quality ingredients with home-style cooking.

The store is two stories tall and features a striking, modern appearance with a black-based color scheme.
It blends naturally into the scenery of the park in front of the station, giving off a sophisticated atmosphere.

Upon entering the restaurant, you’ll find a unique counter seating area with a refreshing blue color scheme, as well as spaciously arranged table seating.

The comfortable atmosphere and sophisticated design made me want to linger there.

With a variety of seating options available, it seems suitable for a wide range of occasions, from solo travelers to couples and groups of friends.
The use of indirect lighting is also beautiful, and the fact that you can enjoy different atmospheres during the day and night is a highlight.

Going up to the second floor, you’ll find a spacious terrace seating area.
This is a special space where you can enjoy a leisurely meal, not only during lunchtime, but also in the evening, while taking in the view of the area in front of the station and the greenery of the park.

Actually, there are surprisingly few spots around Yamagata Station where you can enjoy the view of the station square from a terrace seating area, so I highly recommend this place for those who want to drink outside.
Enjoying a beer on the terrace while feeling the breeze during a summer evening sounds like a great way to use this space.

2. The menu items ordered
KASUMI TERRACE is open for both lunch and dinner.
In the evenings, it operates as a dining establishment where you can enjoy à la carte dishes made with seasonal ingredients from Yamagata, as well as wine and beer. On the terrace, you can relax and enjoy the view of the area in front of the station.
This time, I visited during lunchtime.

During weekday lunch hours, a “Weekday Lunch Set” is available.
The set includes a salad, pasta (or lasagna), and homemade focaccia, making it quite substantial!
Being able to enjoy a lunch of this quality right in front of the station is honestly a great plus.

On this day, I was able to photograph the main pasta dish and the special lasagna.
Both dishes were served piping hot, with steam rising from them the moment they were placed on the table.

The lasagna had a good balance of cheese and sauce, and wasn’t too heavy, making it easy to eat for lunch.
It was a satisfying meal, but the portion size was just right—not too much, and it didn’t interfere with my afternoon plans.
We also had tiramisu after the meal.

Apparently, each tiramisu is made to order.
It contains ice cream inside, allowing you to enjoy the cool texture and smooth cream.
The differences in temperature and texture added a nice touch, making it enjoyable to eat until the very last bite.
This dish is perfect when you want something a little sweet after a meal.

On a nice day, it would be lovely to enjoy a leisurely lunch on the terrace.
Time seemed to slow down, which was surprising considering it was right in front of the train station.

3. Message
We have a message for everyone reading VISIT YAMAGATA.
“Our concept is ‘Authentic food made more accessible and enjoyable.’ While using high-end ingredients such as truffles, we aim to keep our prices reasonable, creating a restaurant where people can come without feeling intimidated.”
We have a deep passion for our tiramisu dessert.
While it’s common to prepare items in advance, we assemble them only after an order is placed.
We’ve added ice cream inside so you can enjoy the temperature difference and the contrast in textures. Please enjoy!
4. Summary
Despite its location in front of Yamagata Station, KASUMI TERRACE offers a relaxing dining experience within a park setting.
Lunch is casual, and dinner is a little more special.
What impressed me was that you could choose which one to use depending on your mood or the situation.
It’s a great option if you have some free time near the station or for lunch during your Kaminoyama and Yamagata sightseeing trip.
On sunny days, be sure to choose a seat on the terrace.
