[Feature] Yubo Ichiraku TENDO SPA & BREWERY! Baths and homemade craft beer

Tendo Onsen is said to have begun in 1911 when a high-temperature spring was discovered in a rice field.
There are three footbaths in the hot spring town, and it is loved by many people as a place where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll.
This time, we visited one of the most popular hot spring inns, Yubo Ichiraku TENDO SPA & BREWERY.
1. What is Yubo Ichiraku TENDO SPA & BREWERY?
Yubo Ichiraku TENDO SPA & BREWERY is a hot spring inn where you can experience the world’s best post-bath experience, based on the concept of “Enjoying the unique.”
The most distinctive feature of the building is that it has a craft beer brewery (Tendo Brewery) on-site.
With an all-inclusive pricing system, after checking in you can enjoy Tendo Brewery beer and local sake whenever you like.
Once you go through the noren curtain, it feels like a small museum!
It was a wonderful space that perfectly harmonizes the atmosphere of a good old inn with modern artworks.
In fact, these works were created by Shigehito Matsuda, a sculptor representing Yamagata.
Please take your time to look around.
2. A wonderful moment begins with check-in
Here we will show you what happens from checking in to going to your room!
Your all-inclusive, charming time begins from check-in.
① Lobby Lounge
There is a beer server in the lobby, so you can enjoy beer and snacks after checking in.
At regular hotels and inns, these charges are often separate from the accommodation fee, so being able to enjoy yourself without having to worry about them is quite appealing.
“Angel Cherries” is a rare drink unique to Yamagata that uses Sato Nishiki cherries.
If you like beer, this is a must-try!
② Yukata towel corner
Before you go to your room, you will find the “yukata towel corner.”
There was a selection of yukata with cute patterns.
It’s rare to have so much variation.
Be sure to pick up your favorite photo and enjoy your stroll around the museum.
You can also find necessary amenities such as towels and toothbrushes here.
There were also adorable kids’ yukatas.
This is also a great spot for families.
③ Shop
A visit to the shop area is also essential.
In addition to Yamagata’s famous and local products, you can also purchase beer from Tendo Brewery.
Apparently some people buy one as a souvenir for themselves when they check out.
Beer such as “Angel’s Cherries,” which uses Sato Nishiki cherries from Yamagata Prefecture, would make a great souvenir.
3. To a room with an open-air bath
This is the room we visited this time.
The scent of tatami spreads the moment you open the door.
A cozy space that gives off a sense of nostalgia.
It is spacious enough for couples as well as families to relax.
and!
It also comes with a convenient open-air bath!
Being able to enjoy a hot spring whenever you want is truly the best.
I was able to enjoy a luxurious bath not only the night of my stay, but also the morning after.
4. Enjoy a stroll around the hotel before dinner
After checking in, take a walk around the hotel!
In addition to the artworks and shops within the museum mentioned above, you can also enjoy a stroll around the museum, which is like a maze.
① Multipurpose space Kura
This is a free space that can be used by anyone, including guests staying overnight and those taking a day trip to the baths.
It can also be rented out exclusively as an event venue for seminars, exhibitions, workshops, etc.
The library and Tsukikoma stand, which I will introduce later, were renovated from a storehouse that was over 100 years old, and are very cozy!
It’s also great for relaxing and reading or a little girl talk.
② Library
The library near the storehouse is filled with books of various genres.
You can take the books out of the library, so please enjoy your reading time at your leisure, anywhere you like.
③ Tsukikoma stand
You can enjoy your favorite drinks to your heart’s content, including TENDO BREWERY beer.
Of course, this is all-inclusive too!
We will provide more details about the Tsukikoma Stand later.
5. Dinner
We had dinner at Yuna Dining Yurakuyasu inside the hotel.
You can enjoy freshly cooked meals in a relaxed dining atmosphere.
The first thing we had was this appetizer.
・Seasonal mozuku seaweed in vinegar・Tomato cheese・Grilled corn・Dadacha beans・Eggplant and safflower gluten dengaku・Duck loin・Kanjiro cucumber
We also had a chilled bowl of egg tofu topped with Yamagata dashi.
An abundance of locally produced ingredients are used, allowing the unique flavor of each ingredient to fill your mouth.
The cold soup is potato vichyssoise.
It has a mellow mouthfeel and a subtle seaweed sweetness.
The sashimi includes bonito, raw octopus, wind sea urchin, river crab, and jellyfish.
The sake that the staff brought was a perfect match, which was almost frustrating.
And this horse sashimi from Shirataka!
This was actually my first time eating horse sashimi, and it was surprisingly delicious!
It goes well with ginger and garlic, and I regretted not having tried it before.
Now, it’s finally time for the main event!
What was brought out was the finest traditional wild vegetables and charcoal-grilled Yamagata beef, grilled on a Josper Grill (a state-of-the-art charcoal grill made from 100% charcoal).
The meat itself is seasoned with salt and pepper, but you can also add wasabi or Nanban miso to taste.
The more you chew the juicy meat, the tastier it becomes.
I don’t know, but even though I wanted to eat more, it was so delicious that I was convinced that this amount was just right.
The grilled dishes are grilled flounder in Saikyo style and Manganji age marinated in soy sauce.
The slightly unusual grilled flounder in Saikyo style has a miso aroma that will whet your appetite.
Along with the main dish, we had eel rice.
This rice is so delicious again…
The fluffy texture and delicious flavor of the eel mixes with the sauce and spreads throughout your mouth.
I hope everyone reading this article will experience the feeling of their appetite being whetted endlessly!
The conger eel and summer vegetable soup has a mild flavor.
The attractive items helped to calm my excited mind.
The sweet treats include fig jelly, Shonai melon, Obanazawa watermelon and other seasonal Yamagata desserts.
I was already full, but there was room for dessert.
I ate it all in one go.
Since they use seasonal ingredients, I’m curious to try the dishes of other seasons…
Please come and enjoy Yamagata’s finest seasonal produce.
As for drinks during your meal, you can enjoy as much TENDO BREWERY beer and local sake as you like!
Enjoy a glass that matches your dish.
6. Private bath/Open-air bath
After dinner it’s bath time.
There are three types of private baths available for free use: rock, cypress, and ceramic.
There is a sign near the front desk, so you can hang it at the entrance to the bath entrance before taking a bath.
① Zao Rock Bath

④ Large public bath・Open-air bath
The large shogi-shaped bath and open-air bath had great views, and the water was said to be good for the skin, and it was excellent.

Please come and soothe your fatigue in your favorite bath.
7. Tsukikoma Stand
After a refreshing bath, we headed to Tsukikoma Stand for some delicious beer.
Late café time is from 20:00 to 21:30, during which bartenders will create original cocktails.
They also have a non-alcoholic menu, so those who can’t drink alcohol needn’t worry.
You can also enjoy roasted marshmallows on the beer terrace.
8. Breakfast
The breakfast at Yubo Ichiraku TENDO SPA & BREWERY was also amazing!
A wide variety of dishes are available, using ingredients unique to Yamagata.
It’s a buffet style, so you can eat as much as you like of whatever you like at your own pace.
The fresh salad is so full of the delicious flavor of the vegetables that you’ll find yourself asking for seconds.
We also recommend drinks that are good for your body and mind.
My personal recommendation is the omelette made with funnel-shaped mushrooms, which is prepared right in front of you.
It contains mushrooms that are so fresh and soft that they can be eaten raw.
Once I picked out the things that interested me, I ended up with this many!
I was able to eat a lot in the morning and it was a very satisfying breakfast.
9. Conclusion
Yubo Ichiraku TENDO SPA & BREWERY is a rare hot spring inn that also has a beer brewery.
It was a two-day, one-night trip where we were able to fully enjoy the charm of Yamagata.
The hospitality, delicious food, and comfortable baths will make you want to return again and again.
Why not enjoy some quality beer and spend some quality time however you like?
