1. Yuza Town Beach

・Kamaiso beach

Kamaiso beach is a rare beach where fresh water springs from the sand.

Groundwater flowing from Mt. Chokai bubbles up and out of the water, and the iron sand that is discharged along with it creates mysterious patterns on the sandy beach.

There are rocky areas, so it is a spot where you can enjoy playing on the rocks.

Nishihama Beach is characterized by a straight coastline that stretches from north to south and a wide, white sandy beach.

Nearby there are facilities such as a campsite, a cottage village, and the day trip hot spring facility Apon Nishihama.

2. Sakata City Beach

・Tobishima Island Beach

Tobishima Island is the only remote island in Yamagata Prefecture, located 39km northwest of Sakata Port.

The water is clear and has beautiful colours, and you can see the fish swimming.
Because it is a bay, the waves are calm and it is easy to swim.

There are many rocky areas, making it ideal for playing on the rocks.

・Miyaumi Beach

This beach is attractive for its spectacular location, where you can see Mt. Chokai and the windmills.

Located five minutes from Sakata Minato IC, the adjacent Sakata Kita Port embankment is famous as one of the best fishing spots in Yamagata Prefecture.

・Yura Beach

Yura Beach offers a beautiful contrast between Hakusan Island and the sunset, and has a long line of clean sandy beaches, which have been certified as one of Japan’s 100 Best Swimming Beaches by the Ministry of the Environment.

Hakusan Island is said to have been formed by a volcanic eruption 30 million years ago.

A 177m long red bridge connects the beach to the island, making it easy to get to the island.

There are walking paths around the island, and you can easily enjoy fishing in the sea fishing ponds on the island.

① Hamanaka Asari Beach (Sakata City) will be closed as of 2019.

Please be aware that swimming at unopened beaches may not have first aid stations or lifeguards on duty, which may lead to serious accidents and make it difficult to respond to injuries.
