[Feature] CLAAPIN SAGAE! Play and learning facility for children

img

Sagae City in Yamagata Prefecture is Japan’s number one cherry village, with scenery that changes with the seasons and more than a thousand years of history and culture.

Located almost in the center of Yamagata Prefecture, it is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery overlooking Mt. Gassan, Hayama, the Zao mountain range, and the Asahi mountain range.

A new and exciting spot, Sakuranbo Children’s Campus CLAAPIN Sagae, opened in Sagae City in April 2024.

As the name suggests, it is a spot where children can play and learn to their heart’s content.

1. What is CLAAPIN SAGAE?

CLAAPIN SAGAE was developed as a place where children can develop their creativity, physical abilities, and communication skills through play and learning.

By experiencing an unknown “world,” we aim to develop children’s basic and non-cognitive abilities and raise talented people who will lead a global future.

The facilities include

1. Indoor children’s play area
2. Outdoor play area
3. Camping area

We will introduce each one in detail!

2. Indoor children's play area

Let’s start with the indoor children’s play area at CLAAPIN SAGAE.

Clappin' Sagae-03

This is what greets you as you enter the building!

Clappin' Sagae-71

It’s the kind of thing that kids will run off to as soon as they see it.

This large net playground equipment, “Sekaiju,” is quite large when you see it up close; it’s a whopping 10 meters tall!

Clappin' Sagae-56

It’s really big (lol)

There are lots of things that children will love, such as tunnels, bouldering, and rope play equipment!

Clappin' Sagae-54

There is a staircase inside the trunk, and there are nets, tunnels and other traps on the way up.

Clappin' Sagae-13

At the top is the observation deck area.

Clappin' Sagae-50

You can see the city of Sagae in 360 degrees.

Clappin' Sagae-52

When we visited in July, the area was covered in beautiful greenery.

Surrounding the “Sekaiju” are seven “worlds” where you can experience creative activities, music, sports, and more.

Clappin' Sagae-58

We will introduce each one of them as well!

① Naughty World

Located right next to the lounge is “Wanpaku Sekai.”

Clappin' Sagae-10

The spacious area allows you to move your body freely.

The cute cherry play equipment is also a must-see, and it even has seeds!

Clappin' Sagae-16

The children also seemed to have a lot of fun hiding and playing among the cherries.

② Exciting World

“Wakuwaku World” features large cherry-shaped play equipment that catches your eye.

Clappin' Sagae-12

This one is also really big when you see it up close!

Clappin' Sagae-17

Is it a habit of children to jump at big balls?

They played with it dynamically, jumping on it and pulling on the handles to move it, and it made us so happy that we were sweating profusely.

There is also a hammock area between “Wanpaku Sekai” and “Wakuwaku Sekai”.

Clappin' Sagae-11

Aren’t there some sofas that are notorious for making people lazy?

This is a relaxing area that parents can enjoy, where they can relax and read a book or swing in a hammock.

3. Cloudy World

“Mokumoku World” is an area where babies between 0 and 2 years old can play safely.

There is also a wooden ball pool under the gentle slide.

Clappin' Sagae-20

The natural warmth and scent of wood is indescribable.

Clappin' Sagae-21

It’s also a very comfortable area for babies.

4. Little World

This “Little World” is also aimed at small kids.

Clappin' Sagae-31

There are a variety of toys and play equipment that stimulate the five senses.

Clappin' Sagae-29

The eye-catching colorful toys were also appealing to adults.

Clappin' Sagae-23

There is a diaper changing and breastfeeding space between “Cloud World” and “Little World.”

Clappin' Sagae-22

I’m glad that it’s an easy route to use.

Clappin' Sagae-24

⑤ Musical World

“Otonarusekai” is a room where you can enjoy piano, xylophone, tambourine, and more.

Clappin' Sagae-39

There were also sizes available that even small children could enjoy.

Clappin' Sagae-42

There is also an original musical instrument made using abacus beads.

Clappin' Sagae-41

In fact, some of the instruments were used at a closed elementary school in Sagae City.

Clappin' Sagae-40

Perhaps some of you will be reunited with your favorite musical instruments.

⑥ Handmade World

This is an area where you can enjoy creating things using a variety of tools and materials.

There is also a large whiteboard, so you can do what any child dreams of – scribbling on the wall! (laughs)

Clappin' Sagae-37

Don’t worry if your children say, “I can’t decide what to make!”

There are also samples and a list of instructions for making the items.

Clappin' Sagae-36

⑦ Connected World

“Tsunagari Sekai” is a place where you can connect with the world while enjoying communication in foreign languages.

Clappin' Sagae-44

There are picture books from various countries lined up.

Clappin' Sagae-45

There is also a “Tarik’s Reading Corner” where teacher Tarik will read English picture books to children in a fun setting.

Clappin' Sagae-74

I’m looking forward to seeing these kids take flight out into the world.

3. Outdoor play area

Next up is the outdoor play area!

Approach the entrance to the indoor children’s play area from the right (north side).

Clappin' Sagae-61

If you follow the road…

There’s a “Bumpy Mountain” and a “Big Mountain” that will whet children’s desire to roll!

Unfortunately, the grass was being treated at the time of the visit, but we are looking forward to seeing the contrast with the sky once the grass has grown.

Clappin' Sagae-69

If you go further in, you will come to the Splash Pond, where you can splash around in the water.

Clappin' Sagae-65

Even small children can play here safely.

There are toilets and showers nearby, so please feel free to enjoy yourself.

Clappin' Sagae-62

This may be the first play area Facility that has a washing machine.

Clappin' Sagae-66
