[Feature] Roadside Station Oe! Newly opened
A new roadside station opened in Oe Town on October 5, 2024!
Its nickname is simply “Koramagase”!
It may be an unfamiliar word, but its origin is related to Yamagata.
This time, VISIT YAMAGATA sneaks into the pre-opening and thoroughly investigates its charms!
This spot is currently the most popular in Yamagata, so why not make it your next destination?
1. Grand opening of Roadside Station Oe!
The original Roadside Station Oe opened in 1998.
Due to aging and other reasons, construction of a new facility has been underway in the southern area of the Parking Lot.
Here is the long-awaited completed appearance!
When you think of Oe Town, you think of Yamagata’s “Mother River” Mogami River and boat rides!
The building is shaped like a boat, and designs symbolizing shipping on the Mogami River are incorporated throughout.
The nickname “Koramagase” comes from the call “En’yakoramagase,” which is in the lyrics of the Mogami River boat song.
It’s a lovely name that evokes the history of Oe Town.
The facility is packed with agricultural products and local specialties that are full of the charm of Oe Town, as well as a bakery corner and a food court.
2. Open space
The interior of the building was an open space filled with the warmth of wood.
The scent of wood is soothing…
The facility is full of local charm, using Nishiyama cedar grown in the town.
There is an information corner directly in front of you as you enter, where you can get information about Oe Town and the surrounding area.
3. Agricultural product sales outlet
As you enter, to the left is a farm produce sales outlet and a local specialty goods sales outlet.
There was a wide selection of local agricultural products and processed goods, including grapes, chestnuts, and apples.
The most recommended are the plums grown in the town!
The harvest season is from the end of June to September, and one variety is generally in season for about a week.
Meanwhile, the plums grown in Oe Town are harvested from the end of June until October.
Among them, “Sun Rouge” and “Suncept” have high sweetness and are highly regarded in the market.
The town is working to brand itself as a “plum-producing area where you can always find plums.”
Some of you may be wondering, “What do I do once plum season is over?”
Rest assured!
You can also enjoy plum soft-serve ice cream at the food court, which we will introduce later!
4. Specialty products store
The local specialty store has a wide selection of sweets, alcohol, prepared foods, and more that are perfect for souvenirs!
Don’t miss the sweets corner in Oemachi!
Don’t forget to check out the famous sweets, which are made with love and care, taking advantage of Oe Town’s history, culture, and abundant natural ingredients!
In addition, to coincide with the opening, they have also started selling alcoholic beverages.
The store offers a wide range of drinks, including Oemachi’s local sake “Oenishiki,” made using spring water from the Asahi mountain range, as well as local beer, wine, and shochu.
They also sold the tufting base “Nimaru” products that we covered previously.
Please take a look at these warm, original rugs as well.

The recommended products at the local specialty store are those made using honey from Nishinoyama Beekeeping’s Flower Honey, produced in Oe Town.
The bite-sized Baumkuchen and Langue de Chat sweets come in cute packaging and are perfect as souvenirs.
5. Bakery
One of the most popular areas in the building was the bakery corner, lined with freshly baked bread.
As this is the first bakery in Oe Town, the townspeople were excited about its opening.
At this roadside station, more than 20 kinds of rare freshly baked bread are on display every day.
There are also sweets in the showcase.
It was a lineup that made me want to return again and again.
Recommendations include Maasa bread, Imoni bread, and bread featuring “Puku-chan,” the official social media character of Oe Town.
And what’s more, imoni, the soul food of the prefecture’s residents, has now been made into bread.
As a Yamagata resident, I can’t miss out on this!
The sweet and spicy ingredients, including taro, burdock, green onions, mushrooms, etc., went perfectly with the soft and fluffy bread.
Another product is “Puku-chan’s Melting Chocolate,” which features an illustration of Puku-chan, Oe Town’s official social media character.
It contains rich chocolate cream inside.
They also sold cream buns with illustrations of Puku-chan on them.
6. Food Court
The food court offers weekly set meals, soft-serve ice cream, coffee, and more.
There are counter seats as well as table seats, so even if you are alone, you can feel free to come here.
There is a raised area at the back that will be ideal for families with children!
The recommended dish is the weekly set meal.
The menu, which uses rice from Oe Town and seasonal vegetables, looked adult-like at the time of the interview.
Don’t miss out on what weekly set meals will be available from now on.
They had a wide selection of rice dishes such as curry and rice balls, noodles such as ramen and udon, and children’s menus.
7. Nearby parks
Pukupuku Park, located right next to Roadside Station Oe, just opened in August.
This is also a spot that we highly recommend you visit.
You can have fun to your heart’s content on the large, complex playground equipment and in the spacious grassy area.
It is located between Roadside Station Oe and Thermae Hakuryo Healthy Hot Springs Center, so be sure to check them both out!
8. Message
Finally, stationmaster Yahagi-san gave a message to everyone watching VISIT YAMAGATA.
“Thanks to the cooperation of many people, we were able to successfully open.
The recommended plum season is coming to an end, but the food court offers plum soft-serve ice cream all year round.
We will also be selling delicious La France pears and apples, so please come and visit Roadside Station Oe.
