Kamorai Shrine

  • img

The enshrined deity at the Kamorai Shrine is Wakeikazuchi-no-Kami, and according to history, in 1360, Shiba Kaneyori, lord of Yamagata Castle, prayed for the coming of Kyoto’s Kamigamo Shrine on this land, which was located toward the south east of the castle (the direction of the demon gate).

There is a large votive tablet inside the main hall, depicting more than 500 white-robed pilgrims line up from the Otorii gate at the eastern end of Bobaramachi to the top of Mt. Kumanodake, reminiscing about the peak of the pilgrimage to the East.
