Mogami Park (Shinjo Castle Ruins)

  • img

This is the park of the Shinjo castle ruins built in 1625 by Masamori Tozawa, the founder of the Shinjo clan.

Shinjo Castle was a flat castle surrounded by a triple moat. The Tozawa clan occupied the area for about 243 years over 11 generations.

Today, the moat and the stone walls remain while the Tozawa, Tenmangu, and Gokoku shrines are enshrined here.

The Mogami Park is a place for citizens to relax, and in Spring, about 300 cherry trees including Someiyono and weeping cherry blossoms bloom.
