Born in what is now Sakata City, Ken Domon is known as one of the most representative photographers of the 20th century.
He has won numerous accolades for his unique realism in photojournalism and his distinctive perspective on traditional Japanese art.
When Domon was selected as an honorary citizen of Sakata City, he offered to donate all of his works to the city, and in 1983 the Ken Domon Museum of Photography was opened as Japan’s first museum dedicated to photography.
In addition to the photo exhibits, one of the attractions of the memorial hall is its beautiful building that blends in with nature.
There are also various events held, so be sure to check it out.
