    Sanjingo Saiden Shrine

Mt. Haguro is one of the Three mounts of Dewa, the others being Mt. Gassan and Mt. Yudono. Mt. Haguro is said to be the entrance to the “reborn journey” one can take around the three mountains. Pilgrims will start here as Mt. Haguro represents this world, while Mt. Gassan represents the previous life and Mt. Yudono the afterlife.

The Dewa Shrine on the top of the mountain is called the Sanjingo Saiden Shrine. It also serves as a shrine for Mt. Gassan and Mt. Yudono as their respective shrines are difficult to visit during the winter.

The path leading from the Zuishin-mon gate which stands at the entrance of the approach is lined with old cedar trees that are 350 to 500 years old and has a solemn atmosphere. The National Treasure Five-storied Pagoda, which rises surrounded by old cedar trees, is beautiful and has a graceful appearance regardless of the season.

Beyond the Five-storied Pagoda, there is a stone staircase leading to the summit, and the climb continues quite steeply. It takes approximately 60 minutes to reach the summit.
There is a tea house on the way, and it is recommended to take a break while trying the rikimochi rice cake and macha green tea while looking at the Shonai Plain below.

If you are worried about walking, the top of the mountain is accessible by car, so you can either drive there or take a bus.
