img

Yamagata Prefecture, the kingdom of fruit.

You can enjoy seasonal fruits all year round, including cherries, which the prefecture boasts as the largest producer of in Japan, as well as watermelon, grapes, La France pears, apples, and more.

This time we visited café HATAKE STYLE in Amidaji, Kaminoyama City.

This café is run directly by Takahashi Fruit Land, one of Yamagata Prefecture’s leading orchards, and serves up sweets made with lavish amounts of fruit that are sure to please adults.

In this article, I will introduce the appeal of HATAKE STYLE (^-^)

1. What is Takahashi Fruit Land?

① Overview of Takahashi Fruit Land

Takahashi Fruit Land was founded in 1983 and is one of the most popular orchards in the prefecture, with as many as 300 customers from inside and outside the prefecture visiting on busy days to pick fruit.

The vast grounds are filled with cherries, which are synonymous with Yamagata, as well as grapes, La France pears, and other fruits.

Takahashi Fruit Land places particular emphasis on “soil creation,” and produces its produce using 100% organic fertilizer without the use of chemical fertilizers.

②Fruit picking is also recommended.

(1) Cherries (late May to early July)
Speaking of Yamagata, this is it (^-^)
At Takahashi Fruit Land, cherries are grown both in greenhouses and outdoors.

We cultivate a wide variety of cherries, including “Sato Nishiki cherries,” Benishuho, Taisho Nishiki, and “Gassan Nishiki,” which is characterized by its rare yellow fruit.

(2) Grapes (late September to late October)
In fact, Yamagata is the third largest producer of grapes in Japan.
The soil is ideal for grape cultivation and the climate has a wide range of temperature changes, resulting in fragrant, sweet, and rich grapes.
We have a wide variety of Muscats available, from the traditional Niagara and Steuben to the large Shine Muscat, which can be eaten with the skin.

*Reservations are accepted only during the above period.

(3) La France (early October to late October)
Kaminoyama City boasts some of the best quality La France pear cultivation in the prefecture.
They use a unique method called “trellis cultivation” in which each branch is fixed in place, allowing nutrients to be distributed evenly to each La France fruit, which makes it possible to grow large fruit.

The La France harvest time is short, so it can be difficult to time your experience, but we still recommend it!

In addition to fruit picking, you can also experience other activities such as “Imo-ni Kai (a sweet potato stew party) held under the grape trellis” and “Hoshi-gaki making.”

2. HATAKE STYLE appearance and interior

This is the appearance of Takahashi Fruit Land.

The building with the large words “Takahashi Fruit Land” is the café HATAKE STYLE main shop.
I’ll introduce it later, but the light blue building on the left is a shop where you can buy seasonal fruits and processed foods (^-^)

First, let’s take a look at the café!
Here’s what the inside of the café looks like.

The spacious interior features an impressive wood stove and is simple yet stylish in design.

There is a fruit orchard spreading out beyond the window, and you can enjoy the soothing scenery (^-^)

Inside the shop, you can also find autographs of famous people, which is proof that it is a popular restaurant.
There are some big names that will make you take a double take, so be sure to check them out.

There is terrace seating at the back of the shop.

While keeping the same concept, it has a different and wonderful atmosphere from the previous one.
You can enjoy a relaxing lunch and sweets in the bright sunlight streaming in from outside.

3. Children's services

The menu also includes a kids’ lunch, so we recommend having lunch with your children.

There are children’s chairs and cutlery, and a diaper changing space in the toilet too, so even those with small children can use the facility without worry.

The managing director, Mr. Takahashi, is also a father of two children, so the service was very well thought out with child-rearing in mind (^-^)

4. HATAKE STYLE Lunch

Being directly managed by a fruit orchard, HATAKE STYLE has a strong image of sweets, but we also recommend their healthy lunches that allow you to enjoy the natural flavor of the vegetables!

This time we will introduce HATAKE STYLE’s Whimsical Lunch.
The menu changes depending on the day, and on this day it was a hamburger steak lunch.

It is lavishly served with fresh vegetables.
In fact, these vegetables are home-grown and grown by the founder, Shoichi.

Literally freshly picked in season!!
You can feel the original taste of the vegetables.

You won’t know what the menu will be like until you go!
So, first check the board in the store (^-^)

5. HATAKE STYLE's specialty sweets

Introducing some recommended sweets that are perfect for the upcoming season!
All of the dishes use strawberries from Yamagata Prefecture in abundance, and you’re sure to be pleased with both the appearance and the taste (^-^)

1. Strawberry Pudding A La Mode

The first thing I’d like to introduce is the Strawberry Pudding A La Mode.
This is a dish that was created for customers who prefer pudding.

This is a cute-looking dish with strawberries cut into petal-like shapes on top of homemade pudding.

The sweets at HATAKE STYLE are designed with great attention to detail, so they’re sure to look great in photos!
Keep taking photos until you’re satisfied!

Once you’re satisfied with the photos, it’s time to satisfy your mouth and stomach!
I’ll enjoy having this!!!

The fresh strawberries burst into your mouth with a crunchy texture, a subtle acidity and strawberry flavor!
And the frustration is that you can’t get to the pudding unless you keep eating the strawberries…

You can enjoy the luxurious haze.
What’s even better is that it’s chocolate whipped cream instead of white whipped cream (≧-≦)

When we finally arrived, the soft, gooey pudding was not too sweet and we could have eaten as many as we wanted.

②Premium strawberry parfait

Next up is the new menu item starting in March: “Premium Strawberry Parfait”!

There is soft-serve ice cream in the glass, but it is barely visible because it is surrounded by strawberries.
This is also irresistible for strawberry lovers (^-^)

It’s topped with homemade granola and dried fruit, which add a wonderful accent to the flavor and texture.
The rich soft-serve ice cream, the moderate acidity of the fresh strawberries, and the concentrated sweetness of the homemade dried fruit were perfectly balanced to create an exquisite treat (≧-≦)

6. Takahashi Fruit Land's shop corner

At this corner you can purchase a selection of products, including fruits grown in the orchard.

Go fruit picking, have lunch and sweets, buy souvenirs…
It seems like you can do all your sightseeing here (^-^)

7. HATAKE STYLE, which has four shops in the prefecture

Takahashi Fruit Land operates four cafés within the prefecture under the concept of “making fruit a habit in everyday life.”

①HATAKE STYLE main shop

This is the restaurant I introduced this time.
If you want to enjoy a full range of sightseeing activities including fruit picking, gift-giving, and café use, this is the place for you!
We recommend combining this with fruit picking.

②HATAKE STYLE Kaminoyama Station Shop

Located inside the Kaminoyama Onsen Tourist Information Center.
There is plenty of seating, so you can enjoy your meal and dessert menu in a relaxed atmosphere.
Another plus is its convenient location in front of the station.

③Tomato Kaminoyama shop

Located next to Farmer’s Market Tomato Kaminoyama, this restaurant primarily serves dishes aimed at locals.
It is close to Miharashi-no-Oka and Costco, and I often use this shop between shopping trips or when I go for a drive.

④S-Pal Yamagata shop

HATAKE STYLE is a takeaway restaurant located on the second floor of S-Pal Yamagata in the Yamagata Station building.
The menu mainly consists of drinks so that those using the Shinkansen bullet train can easily drop in.
It is also recommended for short wait times for trains.

8. Access to Takahashi Fruit Land and Parking Lot

Takahashi Fruit Land is located in a vast orchard.
The scenery around your destination is covered with fruit orchards, so you may worry whether you are on the right path.
But don’t worry!

There are signs at key points to guide you, so you should be able to get there without getting lost.

The parking lot is located in front of the HATAKE STYLE store, but there is also a second parking lot, so it is unlikely to be full unless something extraordinary happens.

9. Message

The photo is of staff member Terayama-san.

Finally, Managing Director Takahashi gave a message to everyone attending VISIT YAMAGATA.

“Please enjoy Yamagata fruits. We look forward to your visit.”

Be sure to enjoy a healthy lunch and delicious sweets in the great outdoors.
