The Sakata Sea of Japan Winter Cod Festival will be held at five locations, including Nakamachi Mall and Nakadori Shopping Street.

Shonai DEC Club and Chef Okuda will also be serving Western-style cod dishes at Nakadori Shopping Street.

Sakata City Fire Department’s New Year’s Parade will also be held on the same day.

The Winter Cod Festival is one of the popular events at the Shonai Tourism & Products Center.

In addition to the wide selection of single items such as kandara-jiru, cod milt tempura, and seaweed rice balls, we also recommend the “Kandara-jiru Sammai” (3,700 yen), a set that includes kandara-jiru, cod milt sashimi, tempura, and cod oyako rice.

The Sea of Japan Winter Cod Festival, where you can taste kandara-jiru, a winter feature of Shonai, and the Shonai Sake Festival, featuring carefully selected products from sake breweries and wineries in Shonai, Yamagata, will be held at the same time.

There are a wide variety of booths, such as the “kandara-jiru booth” where you can enjoy seasonal winter cod to your heart’s content, and the “tourist product booth” where you can find a selection of local specialties, making this the largest winter festival in Yamagata Prefecture that can be enjoyed by adults and families alike.

・The 26th Winter Cod Festival Sagae Roadside Station Cherryland Winter Festival

The Winter Cod Festival will be held at the Cherry Land Sagae special venue.

Reservations are required and the meal comes with kandara-jiru, a mini cod roe bowl, and a 100 yen shopping voucher.

You can also watch a performance by Sakata dancers at the special venue from 12:00.

・6th Winter Cod Festival in Yamagata

A large selection of Shonai’s winter flavors will be gathered at Kajo Central in Yamagata City.

At kandara-jiru, stalls from the authentic Shonai area will be set up, including the Prefectural Fisheries Association Female Division, Uotei Okazaki, and Honma Fresh Fish Store!

Other dishes to enjoy include cod milt tempura, cod roe rice marinated in soy sauce, rock seaweed rice balls, and fishery cooperative sushi.

Drinking month will also be held at the same time.
