Yamagata Biennale 2024 in Zao

The Michinoku Art Festival Yamagata Biennale 2024, held every two years, marks its sixth year this year.

This year, for the first time, the event will be held at Zao Onsen and Tohoku University of Arts and Science.

The theme of this event is “Singing Life.”

Zao Onsen is said to have first opened in 110 AD and has a long history as a place for healing people’s bodies and minds and nurturing life. Taking great inspiration from this hot spring, we will be developing four projects.

Come and enjoy the summer nature and climate of Zao, world-famous for its winter sports and frost-covered trees, along with the art festival.
